The podcasts you need to know about...
If you had told me that over a year after listening to my first ever podcast… I would be tuning in to various podcasts on the daily, then I would have told you that you were crazy. And yet, the funny thing is, I’m sure you hear about podcasts all the time. In recent times, podcasts have become super popular, especially in little old NZ where we are a bit behind the times.
However, if you aren’t yet on the bandwagon, I don’t blame you. Its a tricky process to find the right ones for you.
There is a reason why podcasts are really addictive. The convenience of listening on demand, wherever you want, whenever you want, is certainly appealing to most of us. You can tune in at the gym (perfect for distracting your brain…), listen while commuting to and from work, or even listen on the nights you can’t sleep and want to feel less alone. We’ve all been there.
Podcasts are also FREE. Which is a big yes for ya girl right here. Not to mention, there is such a huge variety of genre out there to choose from. From true crime and general knowledge, to the shameless girl chats we all need from time to time… A podcast is the perfect solution to taking your mind away.
So, for those of you just starting out, or those in need of some new inspiration for great quality chats to tune in on, here are my recommendations for 2019 podcasts. I have also popped the links to the pages where you can find these wonderful people, so that you can simply click on the title to tune in.
FVM ZM Podcast
I cannot start my list of podcast recommendations without first stating where my love of podcasting truly began. My flatmate first ever introduced me to this ever so hilarious trio at the beginning of 2018, and I have never turned back since. In fact, I listen to this podcast daily without fail. It’s humorous, topical, and also extremely relevant to the New Zealand news cycle. Not to mention, this podcast genuinely makes me laugh out loud. Not easy to do without imagery. But these guys nail it. Genuinely love their work, all of their messages; the perfect balance between funny, informative, serious, and just bloody good quality. Available: Monday-Friday

Shameless Podcast
The shameless podcast is brilliant for females wanting to know more about the news cycle, without the bullshit. If you are anything like me, and tend to be a bit behind the times… then this is the one for you. Zara and Michelle are two Aussie journalists, who are humorous, light hearted, and thorough in their work. Think Kardashians, Instagram trends, and the ups of downs of being a female. However, they also address serious issues. Encompassing modern day feminism, male and female empowerment, the issues of instagram; these are two ladies who aren’t afraid of a discussion. These girls also do EXTRA episodes, talking to influencers, girl bosses, and more.
Available: Once weekly, plus their ‘in conversation’ episodes which are sparing but bloody brilliant for an insight into the lives of ‘famous’.

Girls on Top
Brilliant. Funny. And from New Zealand. The Girls on Top podcast is created by three lovely ladies involved in media. First up, is the fabulous Brodie Kane… and if you aren’t already following her on Instagram then you should be. Brodie is hilarious, real, and one of the most authentic people I am yet to come across online. Alongside Gracie Taylor and Caitlin Marrett, two other fabulous girl bosses and women killing the game in NZ, this podcast is one of the best. From vaginas, boy problems, relationships, diets, and work issues, these girls nail them all from an incredibly real and relatable perspective.
Available: Weekly, on Thursdays!

Seize the Yay
If you haven’t come across this podcast yet, then you definitely should start with Sarah. Sarah is the girl boss turned entrepreneur who left her successful job in a law practice, and created the infamous Matcha Mylkbar and Matcha Maiden cafes in Melbourne. In fact, I would go as far to say that Sarah was the one who started the ‘Matcha’ phase within the health world. Seize the Yay is a series of interviews with all kinds of people. The list includes Steph Claire Smith and Laura Henshaw, Dan Kennedy, Emma Issacs, Kayla Itsines, Osher Gunsberg, and Racheal Finch.
Available: Weekly.

The Healthy Hustlers
This is another brilliant interview style podcast, which is definitely a good place to start when looking for interesting content. Emma and Madelyn are two girls from Aussie, best friends who work hard and hustle even harder. Girl bosses by day, and fabulous podcasters by night. These girls are wellness enthusiasts, who understand issues such as anxiety, depression, social pressure, and overworking yourself in your 9-5 job. Interviews with people like Brooke Hogan, Leah Itsines, Olivia Rogers, Kayla Itsines, I find this podcast so informative and eye-opening into the world of seemingly perfect, put together individuals. A reality check for sure.
Available: Weekly

The Self Love Club
Created by Bel Crawford, this podcast is truly so real, awesome and honest… without being cliche or cringey (believe me they are out there). A fellow NZ girl and absolute killer on the self love train, Bel created this podcast as something she wishes she had growing up. Teaching us about self love, self respect, and knowing our worth, this is a modern girls guide to empower all of us to live our best lives. For tips on improving self love and self care (without breaking your bank), this is a great podcast for you.
Available: Weekly.

The Line Up
I was genuinely so happy to come across Indie and Lily on the Line Up podcast, firstly because of their authentic and hilarious thoughts about the world; and secondly, because well, they are just damn great. There is something nice about feeling like you have two older sisters just around the corner, going through the same shit as you. These girls are just that. Their funny take on current affairs, relatable stance on keeping up with trends, and the occasional interview with empowering business women within NZ, are all parts of what makes these girls just so damn awesome.
Available: Mostly fortnightly.

The Health Code
Sarah’s Day and Kurtimous.. need I say more? The Health and Wellness duo of Sarah Stevenson and Kurt Tilse are already killing it on the Insta game, with a baby on the way, multiple business ventures with successful companies… not to mention #couplegoals. This podcast however, is a whole new level of chatty, fun banter between the two. Interviews with body builders, famous entrepreneurs, and general chats about their own experience in our modern day business world, these guys are great.
Available: Fortnightly.
